In 2008, Kevin Kelly wrote a paradigm-shifting essay about "1,000 True Fans", a philosophy that a highly successful business can be built with just 1,000 TRUE FANS.

What is a true fan?
This is a powerful concept that hopefully allows any entrepreneur like myself to realize success doesn’t have to be daunting - that you can start small/focus small and succeed. Let’s be real, “true fans” aren't a new concept for any business, but they do allow you to focus on building and nurturing your core consumer.
Here's how Kelly defines a 'true fan':
A true fan is defined as a fan that will buy anything you produce. These diehard fans will drive 200 miles to see you sing; they will buy the hardback and paperback and audible versions of your book; they will purchase your next figurine sight unseen; they will pay for the “best-of” DVD version of your free YouTube channel; they will come to your chef’s table once a month.
Ready to launch
As I prepare to launch our Kickstarter campaign on April 17 2018, I'm terrified!! I won’t bore you with all the reasons for this, but I'm sure you can imagine the angst of hoping all the hard work pays off.
I'm thankful for all the amazing support and feedback I've received since I started this journey. Specifically, thousands of musicians, people I met at NAMM, and those within the music industry all who tell me we solve a problem they face. I'm also excited by the support of folks like you!
We need you!
My question, and therefore my request for help being part of this SMASHmouse journey is simple:
Are you 1 in a 1,000? Are you a True Fan of SMASHmouse?
If so, I want to hear from you. I want to know what problem we solve and how you want us to solve it. I want to know your motivations, your fears and your desires in playing music. I want to help children learn to play an instrument, since you know from my recent blogs, this is key to their development. I need your help to do that.
If you are not a true fan, I want to hear from you too! What can we do to make SMASHmouse a better product for you? A better experience?
