5 Christmas Songs That You Can Rock.jpg

Christmas is a time for good cheer and the classic, once a year songs that everyone knows and loves. Of course, some songs are better than others, and some versions are better than others. So if you have friends and family you want to entertain, someone to impress at the company party, or you think caroling should involve a wagon with an amp, this one's for you.

I've made a list, and I've checked it twice, but you can play it naughty or nice. So grab some eggnog as strong as you like, Kick It to Click It, and have a rockin' Merry Christmas from SMASHmouse with these 5 Christmas songs you can ROCK!

  1. Run Run Rudolph

Let's start with a classic from the originator of rock n roll, Chuck Berry. A Christmas classic for sure, but of course being a good ol' southern boy, I'm partial to Lynyrd Skynyrd's version.

  1.  Jingle Bell Rock - Bobby Helms 1957

This is one of my personal favorites. The intro is so cool, like Frosty on a White Christmas morning, and the song is too easy given even I can play it. Just add the word 'rock' and a good riff, and a holiday classic is amplifier ready. I like it so much, I'm giving you two options! Here's the easy version, on acoustic no less, but easy to follow, so the amp level depends on how naughty you've been this year:

  1. Father Christmas - The Kinks

It eases in all sweet and seasonal -- with sleigh bells, even. Then, the slashing power chords kick in and from the time Ray Davies starts to sing, it's clear that this will be a Christmas record like no other. Sure, it's dark, but his heart's in the right place, so bah your humbug and crank it up for all to hear!

  1. Blue Christmas

Okay, it's on acoustic. And it's not as rockin'. But it's frickin' Elvis!!! So shake your hips and curl your lips, pour yourself another and have a blue, blue Christmas.

  1. The Hanukah SongThat's right, in the Holiday's, no matter your religion this is one of the all-time classics. So put on your yamaka, and crank up your Hanukah.

  1. BONUS - Deck the Halls

Since it's the holidays, here's my special gift to you. "Deck the Halls" is a traditional Christmas, yuletide, and New Years' carol. The melody is Welsh dating back to the sixteenth century, and belongs to a winter carol, "Nos Galan,” while the English lyrics date to 1862…Blah Blah Blah, how sweet.
